The Hokyo reinforce the Kotebuton against the Shinai's impacts but also the frictions.

It exists different shapes for the Hokyo like the simple straigh cut, or more complexe Kumo.

Materials:

  • Tetknit : Material really fast to dry, used mainly for washable Bougu and part in contact with a lot of sweat. It is a synthetic material.
  • Orizashi : Material that dry fast and lighter than other material. The fiber are however more exposed. It is made from cotton dyied with Aizome. 
  • Momen : Standard material used for the Futon of Bogu. It is made from cotton died with Aizome.
  • Velvet (Inside only) : The velvet is one of the most confortable material which can be used for Bogu, but it dries less easily and requires more maintenance. 
  • Clarino/ Synthetic deerskin : Material with a look and properties close to deerskin. 
  • Deerskin/ Shikagawa : The most resistant material used for Bogu. It allies a great sturdiness with great flexibility. It is, however, more difficult to dry than other material, and require more maintenance.
    • Chagawa : Normal Shikagawa which has been smocked to improve its resistance and durability. Well known for its unique smell.
    • Kongawa : Normal Shikagawa which has been smocked to improve its resistance and durability. It has been dye with Aizome. The smell is fainter that Chagawa.
    • Shirakawa : Bleached deerskin which has not been dyied. It is more delicate and flexible than Chagawa and Kongawa.
